Please send emails and letters

Hey guys! If you are willing to write letters and emails in support of my fellow FW Teacher, Connie, please do so. Just write about what you think reading the book did for you, people that you know etc. (ESPECIALLY since these kids were not like you) and what you think it does for kids like those in the book (those are her type of kid). Maybe talk about how we went through a similar situation and that it doesn't seem that the "punishment" is fitting the crime (or however you want to put that). Here are some contacts:
Craig Potter: Her dept. Chair: cpotter@msdpt.k12.in.us

Joan Ellis: Principal : jellis@msdpt.k12.in.us

Superintendent of Curriculum Dr. Debra Barnes or Interim Superintendent Dennis Nichols:
6548 Orinoco Ave
Indianapolis IN

emails: dbarnes@msdpt.k12.in.us or dnichols@msdpt.k12.in.us

Please write to these people. Let them know how much this book means to so many kids and how reading is so difficult that we must give kids things they enjoy. Remind people that the language used is authentic and not mean to offend anyone or teach anyone vulgar behavior. I think those are some of my main points.

Maybe the Livingston family should make another t-shirt...Just kidding! =] I'll be sure to write a letter or something though, I can't believe this is all happening again.

I sent an email, probably not what you wanted though:

"I'd like to commend your school district for the action that they have taken with the recent events of the Freedom Writers Diary. Our school went through a similar process and can only wish that our district was able to stand up for themselves like you have. I congratulate and thank you!

I feel this book is not suitable for for readers and am glad that your district realized that."

Brian, I am most certainly glad that you are at least taking an active role in this discussion, regardless of which side of the argument you land. Despite what others may think, I don't care if people disagree...I kind of like it. It makes the world interesting.

I don't understand, however, on a couple of points in your letter.

1. Do you think I should have been fired for using the book?

2. Do you believe this book should be banned completely, or was that a mistake in your letter?

"I feel this book is not suitable for for readers..."

1) Not sure, I certainly think it was a viable option.

2) Definitely.

Then you should probably stop reading your Star Trek books as well. They are certainly no innocent.

Brian, you are entitled to your opinion, but don't please don't bother taking the time to visit this site if it is only to harass Mrs. Cantu and those of us who care about her and the things we learned about through this book. We are in no way infringing, bothering, or pestering you by maintaining this site, so please don't do those things to us. Thank you.

While you are still assuming this is Brian, I have no idea as to what basis you have that the Trek books are not innocent, as I would bet that you've not read very many. And I could pretty much guarantee, without having read any Trek books, that they are no where's near as vulgar and disgusting as TFWD.

You should also check your grammar:

"They are certainly no innocent"

what is THAT?!

maybe "not innocent"
