Okay, I thought it was time to start a new thread! So, tell me everyone who made a part in the play and how did/is homecoming go/going? (depending on when you get around to reading this post.)
I am heading up to the Lelenau Penninsula for a weekend/day/night out with some of my close girlfriends. I am so looking forward to a weekend away before the real madness of wedding plans ensue.
On another note, I started reading Freedom Writers with my English II classes yesterday. I am reading out loud, and boy is that fun! Especially Diary 3! I sent a letter home this time around, but mostly becuaese we don't have a complete class set yet, and I have to do most of the reading out loud and in class. I think it's different when a teacher's reading some of that out loud versus when kids are reading it to themselves. The words seem to hold a different sort of weight.
It's been kinda cool too, 'cause I pulled up the Rodney King video on YouTube and showed them what happened (believe it or not, many of my kids had never hear of the "Rodney King" incident.) I also talked a lot about California Proposal 187 (brought up in diary 10). Since there's been so much in the news in the last year as far as immigration reform, I thought it would be another cool way to add to the discussion. I have the Wikipedia page printed out for them now (after we discussed what it was in basics today). Monday we're going to write "Dear Abby" letters from the author of Diary 10's perspective, then give advice as well.
We're also presenting (me and the kids) to the school board Monday night about FW and all the things we want to do. We want to get there support because...WE ARE BRINGING ERIN AND A FW TO MUSKEGON TECH! Don't worry, I will let you know when!
Okay! Talk to you all soon (or just Matt and Mike who seem to be the only ones here anymore)

you know ms capy its not so great when a teacher uses wikipedia as a source. after all you told us it was not a legitimate source so many times. i have to say im disappointed that your teaching has gone down the drain now that you've left HHS. :)
i think ms capy's teaching has improved. wikipedia can be very reliable, and very useful! well done ms. capy! it appears that I'M the only one here that supports you still... so you should see SAW!
wow. i dont know how ms capy survived with you in class everyday mike.
homecoming is going good. we won the game and it was really good. the dance is tonight and that will be fun.
Not that I really need to defend myself, I was waiting for you to get on my case about Wikipedia, Matt, but I knew the information was reliable, since I already know that information...I was passing the info on. However, had I been making an argument, I would have had to have used more reliable sources as anyone can edit wikipedia. That was my point to not being able to use that as a source. For example, let's say you use it for an argument about prop 187. Let's say you had to side either for or against it and you used the wikipedia site. Let's just say that some silly dude decided to edit it saying that, in its entirety, was still in effect today. That's the information you saw before the big wigs got a hold of it and changed it back. That information wouldn't be correct, now would it? That's what I meant. I like to use Wikepedia, but you need to be careful.
ms capy said dude!
well done ms capy. and definitely a nice use of dude!
So, what's with all of the craziness going on in Howell without me? I can't believe everything that D and everyone is telling me!
Howell is just gettin ready for your welcoming ceremony is all.
uhh what craziness? im not sure if i've heard about it.
Are you kidding me? "The bus"?
yeah! the bus full of Chippendales' Dancers for Ms. Capy as a welcome back present! woowoo
well ya know a lot of things happen around here ms capy... :D
i just heard about the involvement of the bus and the books together today. its a shame that people in our community are so closed minded and so quick to point the finger.
Well if I knew about this site before...I swear you didn't right it down!! :) I REALLY want come meet your class! They sound a lot better then Howell... :D
So the bus incident? Yeah..well all I've heard that it happened last May and that it is under investigation about a 7 yr old and 11 yr old...I'm so glad I'm out of there! I miss you though Capy... :(
Maya, Maya, Maya, I can't believe you are at the "prestigious" U of M and you used two words incorrectly in your post (right and then):)
Anyway, about the bus thing, I was really saddened that something like that could happen and it was covered up, intentional or not. But it was sad to hear that something like that could happen. But I think what makes me really angry is the fact that there are now people like Curley Sue who have decided that teaching The Freedom Writers Diary in an ACC Soph. English class has ANYTHING to do with it. I never set foot in that elementary school and can assure you that I never met these children. Why do I have to be the reason for all the problems in the world? That makes no sense!
Capy..I'm at MSU!! Psh...that's my MSU English for you :P
I can't believe they can relate that to the Freedom Writers...! Who honestly can believe that it was because you introduced the Freedom Writer's book in HIGH SCHOOL?
OMG! I totally thought you had decided on U of M!
BTW, haven't heard from Maura yet...
Nope MSU! :) I love it here actaully, Great atmosphere, FRIENDLY people, and it's relaxing and not that stressful :) I still wish you were here so I could come visit!!
oh my gosh okay so i finally got this thing working again, and this is the only blog it would let me post on. my computer keeps freaking out on me. GAHHHHH. well anyway, i wanted to post on the most recent blog, but seeing as this thing won't let me, this will have to do. i'm so glad i got to see you when you were in howell for a little bit, capy! i'm sorry we couldn't stay longer =/ but we had to get back to dance. i talked to talberg the other day, and he said your wedding was beautiful. (as i had expected) =] i hope you're having fun in mexico!
